Romantic Museum of Quinta da Macieirinha, close to Crystal Palace, offers an unique view to the Douro River and Vila Nova de Gaia.
This country house from the late 18th century, was acquired by the City Council in 1972, to install there the museum. This museum approachs the aesthetics, the manners and habits related to Romanticism, the city from the 19th century.
Here has lived Carlos Alberto of Savoy, King of Sardinia and Prince of Piedmont. This romantic figure, who the city has welcomed wholeheartedly, came to die in this house, on 28 July 1849, ill and exiled from his motherland.
